Meghan Jane Meyers (born January 17, 1985 in Vancouver, British Columbia) is a Canadian professional wrestler, better known by her ring name Karen von Black. She is best known for her time in Soul Wrestling Incorporated, where she was one-half of the inaugural SWI Women's Tag Team Champions with Hannah Kelly. Prior to its closure, Karen also worked for DESTINY Women's Pro Wrestling, where she was a three-time DESTINY Women's World Champion.

Early life[]

Meghan Meyers was born to Curtis and Janet Meyers. She has an older brother, Jackson (1983). She graduated from Prince of Wales Secondary School in 2003, then moved to Calgary to train to become a professional wrestler. Meyers debuted in 2008 under her real name, wrestling on the east coast.

DESTINY Women's Pro Wrestling[]

In 2010, Meyers signed with DESTINY Women's Pro Wrestling, adopting the ring name Karen von Black. She incorporated comic book and horror influences into her character, with the surname being taken from Velvet von Black from The Haunted World of El Superbeasto. Karen would win her first DESTINY Women's World Championship in 2011, defeating Nurse Michelle for the belt. She would win the title two more times in 2013, with her last reign ending in 2014. Karen remained with the company until its closure in 2015.

The Paradox (2013 - 2016)[]

In the summer of 2013, Karen signed with Soul Wrestling Incorporated, as part of a revamp of the women's division. She made her debut on the September 14 episode of Apocalypse, defeating Theresa McShane. Karen then competed in an elimination tag team match, where her team was victorious, despite Karen being the second wrestler eliminated. Karen would later team with Sarah Bennett, with the two adopting the name of The Paradox in July 2014. They made their PPV debut under that name at Versus the World, defeating Justine Vaine and Samantha Nichols.

Karen received multiple opportunities for the SWI Women's Championship throughout 2015. She competed in a battle royal at Challenging Adversity, where she was eliminated by Kasai. Karen competed for the title in a six-pack challenge at Independence 10, which was won by Gina Scott. Her next opportunity came at Kill or Be Killed in a Four Corners match also involving Kayla Stevens and Ashley Neon, where Gina pinned Karen to retain the title. On the following Apocalypse, Karen attacked Sarah and said she was tired of being held down by dead weight, turning her heel. This led to another Four Corners match at Broken Chains involving Sarah and Theresa McShane, where Gina once again pinned Karen to retain the title. Karen and Sarah faced off in a No DQ match at Destiny Fulfilled, where Karen easily defeated Sarah to end the feud.

Karen then turned her attention back to the Women's title, where she faced new champion Theresa McShane for the title. She lost a singles match at Beginning Anew, then a triple threat match involving Selina Taylor at Challenging Adversity. She had one more opportunity to qualify for a #1 Contender's match, but was defeated by Ashley Neon on May 7. Following the loss, Karen claimed she was going to retreat into the darkness to find herself.

Positive Pessimism (2016 - 2018)[]

In July, Karen would be seen in various backstage promos, admiring a crystal ball and wanting to channel her darkness into something positive. She appeared on the August 13 episode of Apocalypse, rescuing Hannah Kelly from an attack by Selina Taylor, turning her face. She debuted an attire similar to Raven from the 2003 Teen Titans television series, incorporating a lot of her mannerisms as well. Karen then defeated Kasai the following week and asked Hannah to become her apprentice. The two soon formed a tag team named Positive Pessimism and feuded with Sarah Bennett, who was jealous that everyone cheered for Karen instead of her, and Jordan Newport. Positive Pessimism defeated Bennett and Newport at Kill or Be Killed, with Karen sharing a hug with Hannah after the match.

In April, Positive Pessimism entered the Women's Tag Team Tournament, defeating 1-L and Serena, Sheer Cold, and Black and Blonde en route to the finals, where they defeated Los Hermanas Martinez to become the inaugural SWI Women's Tag Team Champions, marking both Karen and Hannah's only championships in SWI. They defended the titles against Justine Vaine and Kasai and Los Hermanas Martinez before losing the belts to Sheer Cold at Independence 12. The two competed in lower-card feuds following their loss, including competing in a Tag Team Turmoil for the Women's Tag Team titles at Destiny Fulfilled.
